FAQ's

Everything you need to know about how HomeFlex works with insurance housing and ALE coverage.

What is ALE and how does it work?

ALE stands for Additional Living Expenses, and it’s a benefit included in most homeowner insurance policies. It helps cover temporary housing and other necessary expenses if you’re forced to move out of your home due to a covered loss—like fire, water damage, or natural disaster.

ALE is used to maintain your standard of living during repairs or rebuilding. It typically covers rent for a temporary home, utilities, increased meal costs, storage fees, and even pet boarding.

Is ALE coverage separate from my home rebuild coverage?

Yes. ALE is a completely separate line item in your insurance policy.
Your Dwelling Coverage pays to repair or rebuild your home. Your ALE Coverage pays for your interim living arrangements.
This means your temporary housing costs do not reduce or impact the amount available to rebuild your home.

Will using ALE through HomeFlex increase my insurance rates?

No. Using ALE benefits will not directly raise your future insurance premiums.
Your insurance rates are based on the type of loss, claim severity, and market conditions—not whether you used ALE to secure temporary housing. You’re entitled to this benefit, and using it responsibly has no negative consequences.

What kind of homes can I stay in with ALE coverage?

Your insurance policy is designed to help you maintain a similar quality of life. That means you don’t have to settle for a low-end hotel or unfurnished apartment.

At HomeFlex, we help you find fully furnished, move-in-ready homes that match your lifestyle and location preferences—whether you need a cozy one-bedroom or a spacious five-bedroom home with a backyard.

How long can I stay in temporary housing?

ALE is usually limited by both time and policy limits.
Most policies provide ALE coverage for 12 to 24 months, depending on the policy and insurer.
We help you understand your policy, so you’re not caught off guard.

Do I have to find my own temporary home, or does HomeFlex do that for me?

We handle it from A to Z.
Our team works directly with adjusters, insurance companies, and landlords to locate the best home for your situation. If we don’t have a property in our network, we go out and find one.
